Associate Engineer

XEC is looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented staff engineer to contribute to the planning, design, and execution of various land development projects, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and grow professionally within the civil engineering field. A first-class associate engineer will be someone whose engineering expertise translates into streamlined and cost-effective processes. Extremely high growth opportunities await this position.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with conceptual design and final plan preparation

  • Under the direction of your supervisor, complete assigned projects within the defined scope and schedule

  • Obtain and apply basic knowledge and experience using Autodesk Civil 3D software

  • Adapt to changing project priorities

  • Adhere to X Engineering’s standards for design and project deliverables

  • Actively work on several projects simultaneously

  • Assist with conceptual drawings, WQMP/LID report, feasibility analyses, site layout, and stormwater management

  • Perform hydrology and hydraulic analysis

  • Prepare technical drainage and water quality studies 

  • Assist with the preparation of storm drain plans and hydraulic modeling

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

  • 1-2 years of civil engineering experience

  • Preferred: experience in hydrology and drainage software including CivilDesign, Hydrocalc, SWMM, routing software, and others

  • Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software

  • Advanced calculus and trigonometry skills

  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Advanced decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to multitask effectively

  • Proficiency in engineering and project management software

Project Engineer

We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our growing team of design enthusiasts and engineering professionals. Your role at XEC will include project design from preliminary studies through construction administration and project closeout, providing leadership and technical training to junior staff and playing an instrumental role in contributing to the health and growth of our business. You will provide technical designs and oversight, prepare engineering plans, work with project managers and junior staff and handle a substantial workload of diverse tasks.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead project design for multiple projects

  • Identify design criteria, plan and execute effective designs

  • Plan, organize and supervise project activities

  • Advise staff on land development operations and project-specific tasks

  • Ensure tasks are completed and schedules are met

  • Provide solutions to design challenges

  • Supervise preparation of and when needed, prepare technical reports

  • Assist with technical tasks such as site investigation, due diligence, utility research, conceptual drawings, site grading / earthwork analysis, utility system design, WQMP / LID reports, feasibility analyses, site layout and stormwater management

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

  • PE preferred; EIT required

  • 3-5 years of civil engineering experience

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Proven ability to foster relationships with staff

  • Proven ability to successfully work on multiple projects concurrently

  • Flexible to accommodate changing needs of the company, clients, employees and/or projects

Senior Engineer

The Senior Engineer will contribute to all phases of multi-disciplinary projects from planning and design through final engineering and construction administration. Project types will include residential, multifamily, mixed-use, master planning, commercial, industrial, and hospitality projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in both the private and public sectors, predominantly in the southern California region. The Senior Engineer will work closely with a dedicated team to produce design concepts and engineering drawings.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare conceptual engineering design; transform concept design into technical specifications; prepare construction drawings

  • Interact with clients; coordinate with sub-consultants; collaborate with internal staff 

  • Central design figure for grading, street improvements and underground utilities utilizing firm design standards, agency processing requirements, and client expectations

  • Assist project managers with budgeting, scheduling, and cost estimating

  • Identify design criteria, plan, and execute effective designs

  • Facilitate coordination of internal staff and external contractors

  • Prepare specifications and submit reports to clients and governing agencies

  • Assist with managing contracts, change orders, subconsultant agreements, and preparing responses to RFPs

  • Mentor staff on land development operations and project-specific tasks

  • Ensure tasks, project schedules, and budgets are met

  • Prepare technical reports and correspondence documents

  • Assist with technical tasks such as site investigation, due diligence, utility research, conceptual drawings, site grading/earthwork analysis, utility system design, WQMP / LID reports, feasibility analyses, site layout, and stormwater management

 

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from accredited college or university

  • 5-7 years of professional civil engineering experience

  • Required: expertise in Autodesk Civil 3D and Bluebeam Revu

  • Preferred: experience in hydrology and drainage software including CivilDesign, Hydrocalc, SWMM, routing software, and others.

  • EIT / PE preferred

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Proven ability to foster relationships with staff

  • Proven ability to successfully work on multiple projects concurrently

  • Flexible to accommodate changing needs of the company, clients, employees, and / or projects

  • Proactive and intrinsically motivated
