Engineering Intern

X Engineering is looking for its next intern for the 2023 year! This opportunity will give a peek into the environment you wish to work in someday, and upon graduating you may also be offered a full-time position. The internship program will allow for close working interactions with both the Engineering & Geomatics practices, giving you hands-on experience, technical training, mentorship from professional staff and working within a positive teamwork environment.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with conceptual design and final plan preparation

  • Under the direction of your supervisor, complete assigned projects within the defined scope and schedule

  • Obtain and apply basic knowledge and experience using Autodesk Civil 3D software

  • Adapt to changing project priorities

  • Adhere to X Engineering’s standards for design and project deliverables

  • Actively work on several projects simultaneously

  • Assist with conceptual drawings, WQMP/LID report, feasibility analyses, site layout, and stormwater management

  • Provide support for hydrology and hydraulic analysis

  • Provide support for technical drainage and water quality studies

  • Assist with the preparation of storm drain plans and hydraulic modeling

Senior Engineer

The Senior Engineer will contribute to all phases of multi-disciplinary projects from planning and design through final engineering and construction administration. Project types will include residential, multifamily, mixed-use, master planning, commercial, industrial, and hospitality projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in both the private and public sectors, predominantly in the southern California region. The Senior Engineer will work closely with a dedicated team to produce design concepts and engineering drawings.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare conceptual engineering design; transform concept design into technical specifications; prepare construction drawings

  • Interact with clients; coordinate with sub-consultants; collaborate with internal staff 

  • Central design figure for grading, street improvements and underground utilities utilizing firm design standards, agency processing requirements, and client expectations

  • Assist project managers with budgeting, scheduling, and cost estimating

  • Identify design criteria, plan, and execute effective designs

  • Facilitate coordination of internal staff and external contractors

  • Prepare specifications and submit reports to clients and governing agencies

  • Assist with managing contracts, change orders, subconsultant agreements, and preparing responses to RFPs

  • Mentor staff on land development operations and project-specific tasks

  • Ensure tasks, project schedules, and budgets are met

  • Prepare technical reports and correspondence documents

  • Assist with technical tasks such as site investigation, due diligence, utility research, conceptual drawings, site grading/earthwork analysis, utility system design, WQMP/LID reports, feasibility analyses, site layout, and stormwater management

 

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from accredited college or university

  • 5 to 7 years of professional civil engineering experience

  • Required: expertise in Autodesk Civil 3D and Bluebeam Revu

  • Preferred: experience in hydrology and drainage software including CivilDesign, Hydrocalc, SWMM, routing software, and others.

  • EIT / PE preferred

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Proven ability to foster relationships with staff

  • Proven ability to successfully work on multiple projects concurrently

  • Flexible to accommodate changing needs of the company, clients, employees, and/or projects

  • Proactive and intrinsically motivated

Senior Project Manager

The Senior Project Manager will provide full-lifecycle project oversight, provide leadership and technical training to junior staff, and contribute to business development activities to diversify the company portfolio. This position requires technical expertise, leadership experience, attention to detail, excellent customer service, and proficient time management. In addition to project workload, the Senior PM will participate in company strategic meetings and become a central figure in optimizing operational and technical efficiencies. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple projects concurrently including contracts, deliverables, schedules and staffing 

  • Submit reports to clients and governing agencies

  • Identify and manage external subcontractors

  • Direct client interface and attend project meetings

  • Develop a positive working relationship with clients to promote growth opportunities

  • Negotiate with vendors and providers of service

  • Communicate with clients regarding project issues and provide effective solutions

  • Prepare monthly project billings

  • Lead and oversee the design efforts for each project assigned to your team

  • Manage project budgets and schedules

  • Identify and implement design criteria

  • Manage internal staff

  • Participate in company strategic meetings

  • Implement firm-specific quality management/quality control protocols

  • Represent and market the firm at industry events

  • Prepare proposals and respond to RFPs

  • Mentor staff on land development operations and project-specific tasks

  • Review quantities and construction cost estimates

  • Review detailed and complex project reports

  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending seminars, conferences, and in-house systems/management training

  • Ensure tasks, project schedules and budgets are met

  • Provide solutions to design challenges

  • Prepare specifications, technical reports and correspondence documents


Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from accredited college or university

  • Minimum 10 years of professional civil engineering and management experience

  • Familiar with Autodesk Civil 3D

  • P.E. required

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgement capabilities

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Proven ability to foster long-term relationships with clients
